The fantastic sporting achievements of talented local people were recognised at the third annual Eastleigh Sports Awards.
The prestigious event celebrated the success of many talented and dedicated players, coaches, teams, officials and clubs in the Borough of Eastleigh during 2012, a year that also inspired people with the successful London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Organised by the Eastleigh Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA), the event was attended by around 160 people at the prestigious Ageas Bowl venue. The ceremony provided the opportunity to celebrate individual excellence, team achievement as well as recognising those people who work tirelessly ‘behind the scenes’ to support the great sports stars and offer opportunities to take part in an active lifestyle across the Borough of Eastleigh.
Lou Gittens, Chair of Eastleigh SPAA who opened the event said “It is great to see such a wide range of sporting talent in the borough. We have many talented stars including Paralympic and Olympic gold medalists, we also have so many superb volunteers officials and coaches. Without them we would not be able to produce such fantastic stars in the Borough and of course we had our amazing London 2012 games makers and torch bearers.”
The evening was compered by ex-Hampshire cricketer Kevan James with guest speaker Sarah Porter who was a games maker at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Dynamo School of Gymnastics was nominated for two of the categories, Junior Sportswoman of the Year and Club of the Year. We are delighted to report that we were successful on both counts.
Junior Sportswoman of the Year was awarded to Great Britain gymnast Kelly Simm, a member of the Dynamo senior women’s team. And the school received the Club of the Year Award, which recognises everyone involved in the enormous success of Dynamo Gymnastics.
The club’s trophy was collected by Dynamo director Debbie Richardson who thanked Eastleigh Council for the enormous amount of support that Dynamo has received over the years. |
