After a gruelling round of 5 trials and 4 days each week, for 5 weeks, spent at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Kelly Simm and Dynamo School of Gymnastics received the news that she had worked so hard for. A telephone call from British Gymnastics confirmed that she had made the Women’s Team for the World Championships.
Simm who attends Solent University and trains at Dynamo’s gymnastics facility at Hamble Community Sports College, will travel to Glasgow at the end of the week to join the rest of the World’s top teams for this major event, along with her coach Keith Richardson who has also been selected to travel to Glasgow along with the Team.
This will be no ordinary World Championships. With the Olympics in Rio next year the GB Team must finish in the top eight to get an automatic place. However the team are looking good and the expectations are there to qualify.
Once this first step has been achieved the top eight teams then compete for the World Championships title. Within that the top eight highest scores on each apparatus also get to compete for the individual apparatus title on each of the four apparatus. Head Coach Keith Richardson said of Kelly’s selection, “Kelly has worked so hard since winning the all around World Universiade Title and confidence is high, we are keen to see her on the World Stage for Great Britain in Glasgow.” |
